IT'S MONO MONDAY

Yeah........but you have to agree that it would be a travesty to show this rooster in mono, even if he is rather thick.  Ring-necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus).

We had a dense fog last night and there was an awesome display of rime ice (not hoar frost) all over the local forests.  So I went out to shoot some ice pics.  I came across this cock bird pecking at something in the snow....and it wasn't bird seed.  It appeared to be the carcass of a dead white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus).  If you look carefully, you can see what appears to be clumps and strands of deer hair in the snow.  Just out of the photo, there was some blood stained snow.

I have never known a pheasant to scavenge an animal carcass before.  But when you're hungry I suppose you gotta do what you gotta do.

BEST IN LARGE.
