Tanners Yard

A drizzly day in Kendal. This is Tanners Yard. The plaque on the left ( also in extras) says there were originally 17 tan yards and 200 tanpits. It must have been pretty smelly.. 
Internet research tells me its the only yard left in Kendal that still goes all the way down to the river. And it has bee boles- so I apologise for not exploring it more thoroughly and promise next time I will venture further down.
