News from Norwich in Co-operatives Fortnight

Willow Housing Co-operative in Norwich was formed in 1984 and over that time has provided housing for hundreds of disadvantaged people in real housing need and continues to do so.

Norwich City Council is now wanting to close the co-operative, thereby ending co-operative housing in the city. The manager of the Co-op and the members believe that this decision is contrary to the policy of the Council of offering diverse housing alternatives.

Lambeth United, a housing co-op in London, is also being threatened with closure by their council.

Personally, I believe that co-operative housing is a common-sense way of providing housing to those in housing need. All residents must be members of the co-operative, which means that they gain much more than a roof over their head. They also do much more than pay rent, as they have a say in how the co-operative is managed.

Please, if you wish, take a moment to sign this e-petition. Your support will be greatly appreciated.

Particularly by one of my chums who has only recently moved in and is very, very happy there.
