What I've Done

Kirk Fell from Great Gable

Today's forecast was dry with mostly Sun. So we set ourselves a good walk. From Honister, over to Kirk Fell, and up it, then back to Great Gable, and up the north face, on to Green Gable via windy gap, down to Base Brown and back to Honister round the base of Brandreth.

The temperature was below freezing, but a reasonable start to the day - rather overcast. We reached the top of Kirk Fell in a couple of hours, then the snow came in! We were close to giving up, but we started scrambling up the north side of Great Gable, and it got to the point that it was easier to carry on than to retrace our steps, though visibility was almost nil, and fine snow/hail was falling quite hard.

We made the top of Gable, (along with half a dozen others), and the sky started to break up, giving us great views all around. We completed the walk we set out to do, but feel very tired tonight, having covered 11 miles of very technical walking and over 3000 feet of altitude. But what a fabulous day!

Quiet day tomorrow - with snow forecast.
