The Pensioner

Child with Teapot

A trip along to Leith Library with minkykins. A warm place where you can draw on free sheets of paper that they give you at the desk. And read stories too. Though she soon tired of that - Grandad not reading fast enough to get to the exciting scene on the cover that attracted her attention in the first place. But where is the zombie? I dunno - I’m only at page 37. Let’s go back to picture books please.
Then a call in at Joy Tots again and the bus home. The poor wee thing was quite flaked out and had a couple of coughing fits. Viral overload for us too I fear.
I tell you what caught my eye though - an article in the Guardian saying that the number of children referred to emergency mental healthcare (in England admittedly) has soared by more than 50% in three years. And further, in 2022 alone, 1.4 million were referred to child and adolescent mental health services. This is crazy stuff. What are we doing to our kids?
And on a lighter crazy note, the SK’s new friend a few doors along is back. On seeing the gas being flared off at the Mossmorran Refinery across the Forth, some eight miles away, she… phoned 999 for the fire brigade. I’m now worried about burning more garden refuse.
