Unexpected

I was puzzled by zodiac signs in Milan’s Duomo. Turns out that there is a giant sundial constructed there by astronomers with permission from the ecclesiastical authorities in 1786. The construction of the sundial allowed standardisation of the calculation of time from midday. Apparently it had previously been calculated from sunset
