Look who's here!

Finally, after five weeks' absence, I picked S up from the airport this morning. I don't think we've ever been apart for this long. His mum is still in hospital but will likely be discharged to a care home for further convalescence within the next few days.

To S's disappointment, it was dismal weather when he arrived, but it brightened after lunch, so we went out for a short walk to our vineyard, newly pruned. If you haven't had enough of blossom, there's some in extras.

In the evening we went to a show in Capendu -- I booked it months ago, and it was just good luck that S was here. It was a band called Les Fouteurs de Joie. The object was to distribute joy, and it worked. There were five of them playing a wide variety of instruments including guitar, accordion, drums, bass clarinet, musical saw, mouth organ. The lyrics were punny and often treated serious subjects with humour. They ended with an excellent blues number and they deserve a medal for the grotesque naked flesh suits and the rickety looking equipment for hauling one of them into the air like a flying pig, which epically fell apart before he even left the ground. It's always enjoyable to see excellent musicians fooling around. Sample here (no flesh suits on view).
