Anne's Daily Encounters

What's left from the past

Once upon a time there was a castle up here, castle Schonauwen, what's named in the annals of the early years of 14th C. this 13½ meters high tower (a little tilted like Pisa's tower) is almost all that remained from that castle, what knew knights and was transformed into a lofty mansion just before 1700. A century later, the new owner who'd bought the mansion in 1812 had to pay lots of tax for the building as tax was rated then on the number of windows, and it had lots of windows... so he had the mansion and all demolished in 1813, except for its tower... and that's what I just blipped.

P.S. a small patch of land around this tower is left as historic site and all the land around that is filled now with new houses around the block.
