Nailbourne

The Nailbourne is a beautiful chalk stream running through gentle down land. A bourne is an intermittent river sometimes overflowing and sometimes dried up. This is a favourite walk at Bishopsbourne through the churchyard and following the river in the field behind Joseph Conrad’s former home.
We turn back when the river flows into a man made lake on a country estate. Then it’s time for a half pint at The Mermaid.
