headstone

our good friend Kathryn's grandfather passed away a few days ago and Kathryn was out from DC to attend the ceremony. We met her over at the funeral home and caught up: talked politics (a lot going on nationally and locally, neither of which really looks good for our side--this place is so regressive, so backward thinking; ugh, I can't really think about it anymore.), heard about her internship, and laughed, as is always guaranteed when the three of us get together, even despite the obviously unfortunate circumstances. We all had a good laugh, too, looking at this catalog of headstones for sale, the kind of laugh that always accompanies reflecting on strange businesses such as the funeral business, entities that deal in the realm of ceremonializing strange and confusing life events (made me think about Six Feet Under, my all time favorite show). Anyhow, back home now, kind of drained, just ready for this summer class to be over (so the anxiety about the forthcoming test--one week from tomorrow--can finally subside). Onward, upward, outward, and all.
