We felt very happy we'd managed to borrow snowshoes for Arthur because the first question he asked when he saw snowshoes on the ground was "Where are mine?"  Fitted out with the gear we headed up to the top of the hill. There's a lot of fresh snow so finding the track is not always easy but we did okay. Jan had already trodden out the first half of the trip.
A few days ago I blipped a "Calvin and Hobbs" book and commented how much I enjoyed it reading it. Calvin is an often fearless child who loves snow. Now I've met a real Calvin! Arthur (nearly 5 years-old) arrives at the top of a 3 metre high snow-covered steep slope and without even pausing just throws himself down it. Close adult supervision is sometimes required!
Freya, only 18 months old, spent this trip asleep, in a harness on the front of Jess.
Another day of the great outdoors!
