A Swift One

Today I’ve been to South Yorkshire Natural History Day. There was a series of talks most of which were very good,  about Tawny Owls, White Letter Hairstreak butterflies, canal flora, Yorkshire Naturalist Union, and the Sheffield Swift Network. the last of these talks was given by an inspirational women called Chet Cunago, about whom I’ve read quite a bit mainly in the local and national press, but today was the first time I’ve seen and heard her in person. She is passionate about Swifts and spends most of her life campaigning for Swifts, to help people make their properties Swift-friendly, to make new build have Swift-friendly bricks and roofs, and during the breeding season, to hand rear abandoned chicks (a 24 hour job). She was voted wildlife hero recently in a national magazine. Truly heroic!
