Alton Lane

A morning stroll that took in two rarely-visited local sites, the interior of St Stephen’s church and the Hub Theatre, originally vaudeville, then talkies, later foreign-language films and finally adult before falling vacant.

I timed my church arrival for when I thought the service would be ending, but caught the last 15 minutes. It was all very casual, shorts and t-shirts for everyone up the front except for the minister, a children’s play area in the side chapel, live music to finish and then morning tea outside.

The owner of the Hub, a vintage market on the weekends, struck up a conversation about its history - including seating plans, newspaper clippings and adult film posters (all German). This vacant block across the back lane used to house the dressing rooms for the earlier vaudeville stars.

Hope you’re having a good Sunday.

Thanks for hosting Marlieske.
