The stalker

We are in Tunis. We had breakfast in such an enormous dining room I probably did my daily step count just trying to find the coffee machine.

We left at 8.30 for the hour to drive to Uthina or Oudna. Since the French occupation Sunday is a day of rest and the faithful get 2 hours off work to go to the mosque on Fridays.

We saw the aqueduct which carried water to Carthage. The area was green and fertile with olives groves - after 3 years of no rain the price of olive oil has risen massively but they had rain at the end of last year.

This site was only discovered in the 1950s and a village hsd been built on it. Now there’s a capitol, Forum, one of the largest Roman bath complexes in Africa and a large villa. The mosaics are now in a museum. The town itself, built in the time is Hadrian in second century CE, was huge but hasn’t been excavated yet.

Then we drove to have lunch in a small restaurant before continuing over the port area to Carthage. We’ll visit those ruins another day. This afternoon we went to an Andalusian-type blue and white town called Sidi Bou Said. It was a wealthy place with beautifully dressed young people promenading. I chose for my blip this picture of a cat stalking the young woman in her fur coat. It’s winter for the locals but a pleasant 19 degrees for us. While wandering rather aimlessly while others were shopping for souvenirs we were accosted by a group of Chinese tourists who wanted to know where we were from. They showed us their photos of London and Manchester and Stratford.
