Waiting for the Off

This is NAS Bermuda, a waypoint on the  journey from the UK to Nevada, Nellis AFB.  We were due to take part in Exercise Red Flag, based at Nellis, but the aircraft had to be positioned there for the use of all the crews who would take part in the Exercise this year – 1992.

We had flown from the UK at the end of 1991 and spent New Year's Day on Bermuda before continuing our journey to Nevada on 2 January.  I had flown a Tornado to Bermuda – being refuelled periodically by the Tristar, 8hrs 10 mins, of which 1hr was in cloud – but I was due to let someone else fly the next leg while I lounged in the Tristar; I remember being happy with that idea.

In the Extra, the same view, but from the cockpit of the Tristar.

Photos taken with an Olympus OM2SP and Zuiko 28 ƒ2.8 lens using Fujifilm Reala film.  Scanned with a Minolta Dimage 5400 scanner.
