ELENA'S VIEW

A few days ago I was delighted to discover that a memorial bench had been placed at the Links Battery Gun Emplacement, South Stromness.  The bench is in memory of Stromness Postmistress, Elena Kimmett, her husband Archie who was an Orkney Lighthouse Keeper, and her mum Cati.
Our friend Elena sadly died shortly after she was diagnosed with cancer during the Covid lockdown in 2020.
The last time we saw Elena was when we all went to lunch on the 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme at the end of August, both Elena and I were diagnosed with different cancers in October 2020 and poor Elena had died before I was home from hospital in mid December.
Elena's son, Justin said she gave thousands of pounds of her own money to the Post Office to cover errors by the Fujitsu-Horizon computer system during the time she was Postmistress at Stromness.
The memorial bench has a great view and it is sheltered from the wind by the concrete bunker.
Extras:  Elena in happier times when her husband, Archie was still alive. (A family photo).  The Bench.
