Holgate Windmill, York

The only remaining windmill in York (at one time there were 20), built in 1770 and the oldest 5 sail windmill in the country. It also has the distinction of being the only windmill on a roundabout (voted Britain's best roundabout in 2012)!

The windmill was operating, producing flour until 1933, but was then neglected and allowed to fall into disrepair. By 2001, it was completely derelict, and the Holgate Mill Preservation Society was formed. Restoration began in 2006, and by 2012, it was producing flour again.
