Pula Arena

After a morning walking the trails and beaches of the Golden Cape Park, we drove to Pula to see the Colosseum. The amphitheatre was first built in timber during the reign of Augustus (2–14 AD), then replaced by a small stone amphitheatre during the reign of emperor Claudius. In 79 AD it was enlarged to accommodate gladiator fights, and gladiator fights are still held here every year! It is among the world's six largest surviving Roman arenas. Quite something.
