Dracula’s Castle

The ruined Whitby Abbey stands high on a hilltop overlooking the town and is said to have inspired Irish writer Bram Stoker when he wrote his gothic novel Dracula.
Interesting little museum there too.

It was a windy, grey day again though it didn’t rain on us.
Also went to nearby Staithes (pub lunch at The Cod & Lobster) and Runswick Bay, both little ports with very steep streets.
Glad to see the parking meters everywhere we’ve been are out of action till early March, saving us a little fortune!

Saw a lovely sunset this evening, the skies over Whitby looking very pink.

Things I learned today:
- Bram as in Stoker is short for Abraham
- To ‘hurkle durkle’ is to lounge about in bed instead of getting up - I love to hurkle durkle!! It was a random sign in the Abbey shop.
