Sgwarnog: In the Field

As March is just around the corner, I can probably start using the S word. The first Lesser Celandine of the year down at the nature reserve are another indicator of the arrival of spring. In the treetops, a large flock of Siskin were making themselves heard. Still no sign of butterflies - the air temperature was still pretty cool, despite the sunshine.

Crossing the river, I headed up through Buck Wood to Thackley for football, with Knaresborough Town the visitors in today’s NCEL Premier Division fixture. After taking only one point from their past four games, Thackley got their play-off challenge back on track with a convincing 5-0 win. Highlights included two players having a game of rock, paper, scissors to determine who would take a direct free kick. The winner scored from the kick, so it must have worked. It was also the first Saturday 3pm fixture in months that hadn’t needed floodlights at all.

Than back home across the valley, through a surprising wintry rain shower, to get tea for 16yo.
