Swingate Transmitting Station

Another very cold and murky day – I stopped by the old Swingate transmitting station, very close to the famous Dover cliffs. This was first built in 1936 as an experimental radar station for the Air Ministry, originally with four towers connected by wires. In 1955 and 2010 two towers were dismantled, leaving the current two which serve as FM transmitters for BBC radio, and also sport mobile phone antennae and microwave dishes that provide high speed data links for the New York Stock Exchange.
