Gladiators!

CyclopsJnr loves Gladiators.  He saw a video on YouTube where they made a sign of someone's initial using electroluminescent wire, and was really keen to make a Gladiators logo using the same technique.

We did a bit of research together to find the right wire to buy on Friday, then made a template from a logo we found online and printed it out at the right size.

This morning before rugby we found some white foam board, put holes in the right places on it using the template then sprayed it black.

CyclopeJnr loved rugby this morning but came back so covered in mud his kit went straight in the washer and he went straight in the bath.

This afternoon we cycled 11 miles.  We took the old rail line to Roseburn then tried out some of the new city centre cycle routes.  The bike path up to Haymarket is pretty good, and the route through the West End is OK.  Charlotte Sq, George St and St Andrews Sq are on road but OK. It got better again back onto a segregated bike lane at York Place.

Leith walk.  Oh my.  We've read about it but and tried it with an open mind but it's horrible.  The signage is rubbish, there are zebra crossings for pedestrians about every 30m, but pedestrians don't know there is a cycle lane so wander in and out of it randomly.  It zigzags across the pavement to dodge bin stores and bus stops, and ends in a line of cones blocking it for no apparent reason.  After a brief on road section we got onto the Water of Leith path, then through Victoria Park onto the main bike path home.  A good run.

After recovering we got back to the Gladiators project (paint now dry) and attached the electroluminescent wire with little loops of fine wire at the corners.  He was delighted with the result.

Then we watched Gladiators from yesterday - which was once again pretty exciting!

The Gladiators logo is now above his bed, although will go off overnight as the power unit for the electroluminescent wire makes a bit of a whining noise as it has to step up the voltage from the batteries.
