Buidhe

At Sunday school this morning we were talking about names. My Christian is more commonly a surname. It came into our family as my grandfather’s sister married an Andrew Boyd in 1881 in Canonbie. They had one son who died aged 12.

When my father was born in 1924 my grandparents chose Andrew Boyd as his Christian names and when I came along I got Boyd as my main name.

It is derived I believe from the Gaelic buidhe which, appropriately for today's photo from the garden, means yellow.
