Auld Brig Keith

Linking Keith with Fife-Keith is the 'Auld Brig' built in 1609 AD by Thomas Murray and his partner Janet Lindsay as a permanent memorial to their dear child who drowned in the river Isla at that crossing point in the hope that none should suffer similar loss.
A stone at the apex of the arch, on the upstream side, reads: 'Erected 1609, repaired 1822'. Daniel Defoe came this way in 1706 during his tour of Britain and described the structure as "exceedingly high and steep" which of course it is.
