Benalmádena Pueblo

This morning we went by train and bus to Benalmádena Pueblo, the original whitewashed old town up in the hills from the more modern resort of Benalmádena.

It was fairly quiet apart from a local wedding being held in the beautiful church, shown in the main blip, which is perched on the edge of the village with panoramic views down to the coast.

The doors of the church had been left open so you could catch a glimpse of the ceremony (in extras).
After a break for coffee and generous portions of cake we walked downhill to the ornate Columbus Castle monument (in extras) which commemorates his 1492 voyage. It is the work of a Spanish doctor who spent much of his working life in America but returned home on his retirement in 1987 returned home with the vision of building this monument. With the help of two local masons he spent the next 8 years bringing his vision to fruition. His ashes are buried on the site.

We walked back up to the village for a spot of lunch before heading back to Malaga late afternoon.

It’s 51 years today since Tess and I first met so we had a meal tonight in a romantic location on a restaurant balcony overlooking the street.
