More midges

To follow on from yesterdays blip, here is a close up of the midges in the bag down the lens of a microscope.

Midges have been dessicated and then suspended in an 70% ethanol solution. Identification to species level by comparison of wing patterns (we have 37 species in Scotland of biting midge).

All are our favourite friend Mrs Highland midge (female Culicoides impunctatus). Trapped in the lower foothills of the Angus glens in a in-situ gas powered trap .
