Cottage

Today's the day  . . . . . . . . . .  for heartbreak

This is the cottage of our lovely neighbours who have appeared on blipfoto more than once - Claire, John and more recently baby Sophie.

It all looks peaceful and calm here but this was not the case in the early hours of this morning.  A mains water pipe in the field behind them burst and the force of the water ran down the slope, picking up soil and gravel as it went. It collected in a patio area behind the house - and then worked its way through the walls and doorways into the house itself.  It was their two dogs that alerted them to the fact that something was amiss.  They woke to find sodden carpets and actual standing water in places.

Claire and John have spent the day trying to salvage what they can from the mess.  They have been told that they will have to vacate their cottage for at least six months while the damage is repaired.

It's a heartbreaking story, all the more so because they had worked very hard to get everything in good shape before Sophie's arrival.  Just as well they are a strong and resourceful young couple who will find a way to cope with it all . . . . . . .
