Blob

De Blob is a transparent, teardrop-shaped building in the center of Eindhoven. The 1,400 m² and 25-meter high structure, consisting of a mix of glass and steel, is located on 18 Septemberplein. The facade of de Blob consists of 1,500 triangular windows.

The design
The futuristic building was designed by the Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas. Fuksas also designed the adjacent Piazza Center shopping center.

The client asked to design an economical construction that would do full justice to the architecture of the complex, but that was also easy to build. It took six years to develop this iconic building.

The building
De Blob has five floors. The ground floor and first floor are used by a clothing store. Above this there are offices and technical installations. There is also a lunchroom on the first floor where you have a view of the 18 September square through the triangular windows. On the other side you have a view of the Philips Light Tower.

De Blob has become a meeting place for Eindhoven residents and visitors, and it has been part of the city's skyline since its existence.
