1584 And All That

Porch House is the oldest private house in Northallerton built by a cousin of Mary Queen of Scots in or around 1584. Naturally over the years it has been improved and extended but there is still some wattle and daub surviving in the kitchen and many other features.

King Charles 1 stayed here as a guest in 1640 and again as a prisoner in 1647 held by the Scots who sold him back to Parliament. It was through the Porch Door that the constitutional Monarchy came into being and the absolute Monarchy was left behind in history.

King Charles' may come and go but Porch House is still a B&B...

In extras I have added the finished doors to the stained glass cupboard at the Men's Shed. You can tell I was brought up on a diet of Blue Peter with the excessive use of sticky-backed plastic. ;o)
