On Some Days

Truckin' . . . Grateful Dead

This morning I got a view of the snow on Mt Arthur from the Aquatic Centre.  It's Maori name is Tu Ao Wharepapa and it guards the tablelands below.  It is 5,889 ft.  As is their custom the English settlers renamed it Mt Arthur for Arthur Wakefield who sailed from Whitby in April 1841 with settlers for Nelson.  On Saturday the forester is going for a tramp from below Tu Ao Wharepapa to the Cobb Valley.
Today is soprano Dame Kiri Te Kawana's 80th birthday.  She is perhaps our highest achieving musical export.  Now retired she lives back in New Zealand.  This afternoon it has been lovely hearing her clear, rich voice ringing out of the radio.
The water sign will need to be taken down.  The community dam is now releasing water into the aquafa so watering the garden is allowed thank goodness.
