Calenques

We hiked around 18 km today with a 400m elevation from La Ciotat through the Calanques National Park, reaching our highpoint at the Sémaphore du Bec à L'Aigle. It was a beautiful sunny day, but with a strong wind. The views were stunning and we also saw many interesting plants, flowers and butterflies.
A late lunch on the quayside enjoying the sun was our reward!

A calanque is a narrow, steep-walled inlet and the Calanque de Figuerolles (main) is composed of 'puddingstone'.
Extras: the ancient town of La Ciotat ( birthplace of petanque and cinema ) and shipyard where they now repair and service superyachts. Beautiful beach.
