Haweswater

It’s only nine miles from Penrith but it seems like twenty nine! A lot of the road is single track but the beautiful scenery more than makes up for that.
I called in The Haweswater Hotel for a coffee on my way to the valley head. It was like stepping back in to the fifties with a lot of art deco furniture, I loved the place.
The photo is one of the reservoir which, like Thirlmere supplies water to the Greater Manchester area. At times of drought, you can see the remains of the houses and road which were there before the Mardale valley was flooded. It was once the home to a golden eagle.
