Another sunny day

It makes a nice change to have glorious sunshine on Market Day.
This evening I attended the Borderlines remote bookclub. We had been reading The Dictionary of Lost Words by Pip Williams. I really enjoyed this book. It’s based on the production of the first Oxford English Dictionary in a shed in Oxford. It took them many years to do. There are also lots of other stories and social observations going on, including the relationship between Esme and Lizzie, the servant that takes her under her wing. And there is also the very smelly woman who gives Esme an education in swear words and women’s words. These are the words that are ‘lost’.The words they included had to have been published, which ruled out quite a lot of words in common usage. I laughed and I cried. The rude words are not mentioned that much, but it’s probably not for you if you don’t want to see them at all
