Summer Wine

We’re in Holmfirth this afternoon as we’re attending the Blues Splash at the famous Picturedrome this evening. Three great blues artists, should be a good night but it’s going to be a late one as we couldn’t get a hotel nearby at a reasonable price so we’ll have to drive home. It’s not that far but it’ll probably take a good couple of hours.
As we’d not been here before, we thought we’d try and arrive mid afternoon so we could have a look around and have something to eat before the show starts. To be honest, there’s not a lot to see and the cold wind precluded wandering too far. Also, everywhere shuts at four o’clock at this time of year so no opportunities for browsing warm shops.
It’s where Last Of The Summer Wine was filmed, but you’d barely know it. We spotted Sid’s Cafe (closed!) and Nora Batty’s house, which is the one in the picture. Apparently, you can rent it as a holiday home but it didn’t specify whether or not you needed wrinkled stockings to stay there! The property below it was where Compo “lived”, and there is a home made blue plaque to that effect. Right at the bottom of the steps is the Last Of The Summer Wine exhibition and gift shop. That was closed as well.
