The Harbour, Kirkcudbright

Today's the day ....................... for Book Week

As is the growing custom these days, Kirkcudbright now has an annual Book Week which runs from 4th - 10th March.  This will be the 3rd time that it has happened - and by all accounts, its popularity is increasing each year it takes place.  Quite a few of the events this year were sold out within hours of the tickets being available on-line.

We haven't been able to attend anything this time, but Will did go to one of the 'pop-up' book shops this morning - and he was very pleased to find a copy of 'Raiderland' by S R Crockett, a very well-known local author.  It is described by the author as being 'a garrulous literary companion to the guide-books of Galloway which already exist, and to those which may be written in the future.'  It was written in 1904 and the exquisite illustrations throughout are by Joseph Pennell.

The above is a painting from the book of Kirkcudbright Harbour with Castle MacLellan behind, much as it looks at the present time ................
