Trafalgar Square

Nelson's Column was lit by the spotlight, and in the foreground is the current sculpture on the Fourth Plinth. It's called Antelope, and shows two people involved in the independence of Malawi, John Chilembwe and John Chorley. It is by Malawian artist Professor Samson Kambalu. The figure of Chilembwe is much larger than that of the missionary Chorley, which is significant.
We were in central London to see The Merchant of Venice 1936 at the Criterion Theatre, a clever and inspiring production which turned an antisemitic text into a passionate plea against fascism. Many in the audience were standing by the end. And we discovered that the Criterion Theatre, opened in 1874, is underground!
