Trees are Easy

For the first time in months, Daftie and I ventured out on our morning walk in glorious sunshine.  Since the end of October it has rained almost without stopping.  Our house was built over a well which is fed by an underground stream - it was the original water supply for the house in the 1920s.  A couple of years ago the well overflowed into the cellar and we had minor flooding.  I had our plumber install a pump that kicks in if the level gets too high, and feeds the water away into the sewers.  That pump started at the beginning of November, as I began writing the new book, and has not stopped since.  The water table is so high that technicians are warning the owners of swimming pools not to empty them for repair, since the removal of the water weight will allow the unprecedented level of the water table to push the concrete base of the pool up out of the ground.  Residents in our village were warned by an official the other night to abandon their houses and head for the church on high ground in the event of dams upriver collapsing with the weight of water coming off the hills.  Weather forecasts on TV show the river network in France, with those in danger of overflowing marked in orange or red.

And there are still climate skeptics out there!!

My extras were taken of two other trees during our sunwashed walk.  We later had a delicious lunch in a restaurant new to us in a nearby town.  But, of course, by the time we were heading out on our evening walk, the rain was back.

A star to anyone who can guess the source quote of my title for this blip!
