I hosted the weekly Mahjong game this afternoon, so I decided we should play with my father’s Mahjong tiles. He made this set by hand in the 1940s and this was the set on which I learned the game. The tiles are beechwood and hand carved as exact copies of authentic sets. An enormous amount of work, and he was very talented. The tiles fit exactly into their box (extra) . He made the money tokens out of collar stiffeners!
My father was a very clever man who would turn his hand to anything. It was so sad that cancer claimed him when he was only forty, and I was just fifteen. I wish I had known him for longer.
