Morning Darkness

Sometimes when I go out to the car in the morning it's very dark, and as I'm sitting there letting the car warm up I'll turn on the headlights and find myself peering into the woods, wondering how far into the trees those lights penetrates and what, exactly, might be looking back at me, watching and waiting for me to back up, turn around, and drive away, leaving everything in darkness again until the sun comes out.
