Hoi An

An absolutely cracking day today. We got up early and cycled to the beach about three miles from our hotel, stopping by to gaze at some rice fields, water buffaloes, and typical lowland Vietnamese countryside. The beach was gorgeous, with waves big enough to bodysurf :)

After a quick early lunch we joined a tour to My Son sanctuary, an 11th century Hindu religious site set deep in the rainforest. It's absolutely spectacular, in a deeply glorious setting complete with the biggest spiders I've ever seen in the wild (see extras – you've been warned if you are arachnophobic!). There was also a brilliant music and dance display, followed by a boat trip back to the city for dinner accompanied by a stunning ginger, chilli, lemongrass and rum cocktail.

As I'm typing, Mrs G has gone off for a head, shoulder and hand massage ... nice way to round the day off!
