Water Tower, Somewhere Near Ringlestone

Today we decided to revisit the Ringlestone Inn. It's a pub we haven't been to in quite a few years and has had a change of ownership since we last visited. What we'd forgotten is how far out in the middle of nowhere it is - the lanes leading to it are very narrow and winding. When we did eventually find it we were the first customers (apart from a lone cyclist supping a pint of real ale outside) and so were able to sit by the roaring fire with our pints. On the way back to try and find the main road again we came across this rather magnificent water tower standing like a lone giant in an empty field. I thought it was rather strikingly beautiful in it's own brutalist way.
One of the villages we passed through on the way home was Hollingbourne. It has a pub called The Dirty Habit (not it's original name methinks!) that was sadly hit by a catastrophic fire in October 2022. It is slowly being rebuilt and restored but it looks as if there is still a way to go. The pub itself sits on The Pilgrims Way and was used by monks (and I presume nuns) as a stopping off point on their way to Canterbury Cathedral. The surviving outer wall of the pub has a number of murals painted on it - I particularly liked this one of nuns on a tandem (see extra)!.
