Life in Newburgh on Ythan

Let the repairs begin

Back inn 1828, Newburgh became the first port in Scotland to have a Lifeboat Station, provided by the Shipwreck Institution. The RNLI, as the Institution was to become, based a lifeboat in Newburgh until 1961, when it was moved North, to Peterhead.

A recent blip showed how the recent gales and high tides have severely damaged the boathouse and the concrete ramp down which the boat was launched. Today attempts have started to try and prevent further damage. Time will tell whether they will succeed.
