Campbell magnolia

The magnolia is starting to burst into colour.  High up some blooms were fully open, but there were also plenty of buds still tight in they grey felt cases.  

I've come to look at the Campbell magnolia in flower a fair few times over the years.  I met a woman who has been visiting it longer still. She had not expected the Campbell to be open yet and was delighted to see it. She said many years it is open around 21 March but with the continuing cold she thought it might be later this year.
