Sherborne in Elmet

After a wet start today’s orienteering venue was an urban event in Sherburn in Elmet. We set off in torrential rain but fortunately the event took place in the dry.

A new format which saw my age class Women’s Ultra Vet 65 to 75 in age matched with the medium course. The ladies who I spoke to felt it was the wrong course. My watch told me I had covered 8.26km a distance I have not run in over 30 years! Even championship courses would be shorter!

Spotted this on the way back spotted this monument celebrating Swordfish bi plane bombers built in Sherburn in Elmet. They carried a bomb slung beneath the fuselage They were involved in the Second World War and were instrumental in sinking the Bismark.
