Airport Architecture

Our flight to Dubai was delayed, resulting in missing our connection and spending the night at an airport hotel (for 3 hours sleep), before being routed to Colombo via the Maldives (not allowed to leave the plane). Instead of arriving early morning in Sri Lanka, we arrived early evening but at least more rested, and I almost finished Ian McEwan's Lessons, which meant that time passed quickly and well spent.

I arrived with virtually no sense of having travelled at all, except for in the author's imagination! The only other thing that registered was the sheer scale of Dubai's airport and what feels like the total internationalisation of the world.

The taxi ride to our hotel in Colombo was an adventure in itself. Now, that was a proper travelling experience.
