Australian Wood Duck

I featured a Pacific Black Duck the other day, but around here, at least, there's another particularly common water fowl ... the Australian Wood Duck. Oddly enough they don't spend an inordinate proportion of their time swimming and can often be found in large family groups along our street (particularly in our front yard), fossicking about for varied morsels of sustenance.

This picture was shot at our local, freshly refurbished duck pond, where there must have been about 20 examples, all behaving according to duck script. This fella (he IS a male) was eyeing me circumspectly, as I crept a little closer. "Ere!! That's close enough buddy!!"
