Durham Cathedral

Most of the day in Durham, before we took our train on to Glasgow. This blip is from just below the railroad station, long after the early sun retreated behind the clouds.

Marylee had longed to get to Durham since the 1960's but had never gotten here. I came to the party late, but it is uniquely impressive. It's the earliest major cathedral in England, pathbreaking in numerous ways. The nave and transept date from 1093 to 1133, in Norman (Romanesque) style The dual towers on the right followed early in the 13th century, and the central tower was completed in 1487.

A very special experience, even more than the York Minster several days ago.
