Boogie Woogie

Just got back from Midsummer Jazz in Iford Garden. Iford is a beautiful manor house in the Frome Valley not far from Bath. It was the home of garden designer Harold Peto in the early 20th century, and it has a wonderful hillside garden full of follies that Peto brought back from his travels, mainly to Italy, like the cloister in this photo. They have operas there in the summer and also jazz nights. Tonight was the perfect night for jazz, warm and clear! A big crowd turned up with picnics, champagne and dancing shoes :-))

There was a Big Band belting out all the old favourites, but my favourite performer was the "Big Man" of Boogie Woogie, Steve Clayton. He was a stunning pianist and the audience had a whale of a time providing the sound effects for his songs. It was impossible to keep your feet still!

PS Iford have a free day for families in the orchard next Sunday 7th July - a Butterfly Day - 12pm-4pm.
