Save the sea turtles

As we walked up and down several miles of the beach today, we saw at least 40 turtle nest sites. It was wonderful to see how strong the sea turtle conservation program was in this area. We found out that the NSU Oceanographic Center operates the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program. The program provides for the conservation of endangered and threatened sea turtle species within Broward County. While 70% of the nation's sea turtle nesting occurs in Florida, Broward County serves as a normal nesting area of three specific species of sea turtles: the loggerhead sea turtle and the green sea turtle and the leatherback sea turtle. The monitoring of these nests here in this county as well as from our area help protect these threatened and endangered species.
We always enjoy experiencing a different place in our state. It has been a very relaxing getaway!
