White Bay Power Station

Our first attempt to walk here was thwarted by NYE barriers, ticketed entry and security guards. The second failed when asbestos was found in nearby parklands. Today we made it after scampering across 6-8 lanes of traffic.

The revamped power station is a wonderful example of the industrial sublime - vast spaces, enormous pieces of machinery (max weight 50 tons on one), dark pits, soaring ceilings. It’s one of the venues for the Biennale, decked out today with pieces of contemporary art. I preferred the industrial residue.

Have a great weekend everyone!
